It doesn't seem to be a problem to read the Japanese notation in the first
place.  The 10-year-olds that I teach easily learn the system, and none of
them read Japanese and my nihongo is certainly still non-functional.  The
only real problem comes for those of us that don't have access to Japanese
Windows or anything else that will print the kanji for computer work.

As far as westernized notation, Hodges' is what I started with and am most
comfortable with along that line.  Still, since just about everything I get
is in Japanese, reading the Japanese gamescores is probably the easiest.

And besides, as Americans, the rest of the world seems to make concessions to
us - like almost the entire shogi-L being in English (except for the
occasional Dutch we get:-)  .  It's good for me to get stretched
internationally.
