From: Martin Danerud EMW ERICSSON SE> Date: 9 feb 1996 Subject: How to promote ISS Dear shogi friends, I have an idea about how to promote the Internet Shogi Server, ISS, in Japan. I discussed this idea yesterday at ISS with Mr Yuji Noguchi from Toyama Prefecture. The idea is to advertise information about ISS at the shogi clubs and shogi centres in Japan. The advertisement should include the following information: You can find ISS at "telnet://igs.nuri.net:4444". You can login as "guest" the first time. You can find information with the help commands, like "help register", "help shogi" and so on. You can find information about possible opponents by using "who" and "last". Another way is of course to introduce these things by talking to your shogi friends. Mr Noguchi will start spreading this information in Toyama Prefecture. I think it is a good idea for Japanese people as well as western people who stay in Japan at the moment to do the same thing in your area, among your friends and at your clubs and centres. Maybe there are also possibilities to advertise in shogi papers and magazines? The largest number of potential players at ISS are living in Japan. Even if only people with access to computers and a certain knowledge of English have the possibility to play at ISS, there will still be a lot of people. This will also help to promote shogi outside Japan, since a crowded Internet Shogi Server with several games being played all the time and short waiting times for an opponent, will give possibilities for everyone to play, even if the nearest human opponent lives thousands of kilometres away. See you all at ISS! Sincerely yours, Dr Martin Danerud
