"Staunton" is the style of chess pieces used in tournaments and clubs, and indeed almost everywhere. i.e. "normal" chess pieces. (designed by a Mr Staunton quite a long time ago) If you want to play chess with pieces that look like Masai warriors, musical notes, characters from Alice in Wonderland or whatever, then that's up to you, but in a tournament you won't be able to. (I've seen a shogi set for children with animal heads on all the pieces. I can't imagine that would be acceptable in a tournament either) Adam Atkinson - ghira mistral co uk / etlaman etlxdmx ericsson se Man is a giddy thing, and this is my conclusion.
