Dear Richard, Of course Pieter was absolutely correct in his response to me. I apologize for getting personal in my last post. Shogi-L is (as the name says) a discussion list and all contributions are welcome, even if we disagree (sometimes strongly). I am glad you have taken it in style. That is what I like most about this discussion list, we are all friends here with a common goal, spreading Shogi outside Japan. I could tell you stories about newsgroups... (but that is another thread :-)). That being said, I still stand by my oath. Western style pieces may be good for beginners, but once someone has learned how the pieces move, it is time to start playing with Kanji pieces. I hope beginners will see it as their first promotion :-). Again my apologies, stick with us, we need your input, Reijer -- Dr. Reijer Grimbergen Electrotechnical Laboratory Palcious Tsukuba 302 1-1-4 Umezono 1-24-8 Ninomiya Tsukuba-shi, Ibaraki-ken Tsukuba-shi, Ibaraki-ken 305 JAPAN 305 JAPAN E-mail: grimberg etl go jp Tel: 0298-59-1606 WWW: http://www.etl.go.jp:8080/etl/suiron/~grimberg Tel: +81-(0)298-54-5080 extension: 67431 Fax: +81-(0)298-58-5918
