From: Takako Noda JA2 SO-NET OR JP> Date: 24 dec 1996 Subject: "The Quest of Lost Systems" Hello, listfolks: I would like to introduce one of the recently published books in Japan. Even in the professional shogi world, a popular strategy seems to change with time. When Yasuharu Oyama was indomitable, furi-bisha was very much in fashion, then it made its way to yagura. Sometimes it seems that a very popular strategy makes an abrupt and enigmatic exit. This book "The Quest of Lost Systems" written by Kiyokazu Katsumata is about mysteries of those suddenly disappeared strategies. A few words about the author: Mr.Kiyokazu Katsumata was born in 1969. He became a professional shogi player in March,1995, and is now active as a tournament pro as well as in writing shogi books. He gave me his permission to translate part of his book for this list. The book contains 22 systems, or strategies, some of which are: suzume-zashi, Morishita system, Yonenaga's quick-attack yagura, Tsukata-special, Masuda's Ishida-ryu. I will begin with Masuda's Ishida-ryu, which happens to be my favorite.
