From: Hugh Denoncourt HOPPER UNH EDU> Date: 9 dec 1996 Subject: Client Software Hello, A good friend of mine has written a relatively basic telnet shogi server which he would be interested in improving should someone become interested in writing the client for the server. His hope is to have a shogi server located here in America that is accessible to anyone with telnet access(thereby not excluding those who don't have java or who think java is too slow and buggy). He doesn't have much time on his hands but has had enough to put together the server. The natural question, which I have seen posed several times on this list is: Would anyone be willing to write a client for this server? I personally believe this would be a much better situation than someone writing a client for the IGS server since that server is dedicated to Go and already has mucho traffic and was designed with Go in mind. Ultimately, we believe it could be written in something like visual C or Basic ... Does anyone here have the skills or know of someone who does? Would the kind Java programmer be able to or know someone able to achieve this feat? I feel like I am beating an already dead horse, but I guess it can't hurt to try. I may post a similar request to rec.games.chess.misc since that gets a lot of traffic... Thanks, hugh
