The organisers will be very grateful for any Shogi or Tori-Shogi sets and chess clocks brought to the Congress. Venue: Coombes Community Centre, Burns Road, Royston, Herts, UK Following the recent death of a long-standing supporter of the Royston Shogi Congress, Doug McGown, the 'Royston Shogi Tournament' has been renamed the 'Doug McGown Memorial Shogi Tournament'. Royston is 40 miles north of London, between Stevenage and Cambridge. Regular trains run from London Kings Cross to Royston. Times: Registration = 1000hrs 1st round start = 1030hrs Prize giving = 1830hrs The Congress will include: (1) Doug McGown Memorial Shogi Tournament (formerly known as the Royston Shogi Tournament) = 3-round Swiss/McMahon (1995 Winner: Stephen Lamb), (2) British Open Tori-Shogi Championships = 5-round Swiss/McMahon (1995 Winner: Richard West), and (3) Open Mini-Shogi Competition = All-play-All (1995 Joint Winners: Paul Judkins and Malcolm Maynard). Entry fees for the Shogi or Tori-Shogi events will be: 6.00 GBP (3.00 GBP for under-18's), and includes free entry to the Mini-Shogi Competition for all Shogi and Tori-Shogi entrants. How to find the Coombes Community Centre from Royston railway station: It is a very easy route to follow, as all the important junctions are at roundabouts: (1) walk up the hill out of the station, on either side of the bridge, and onto the road at the top. (2) turn left and walk down the hill to the 1st roundabout, next to Orchard Road. (3) walk straight over the roundabout (do NOT turn left into Orchard Road). (4) at the next roundabout next, to the Royston Evangelist Church, turn right into Burns Road (signposted to Roysia School). (5) at the next roundabout turn right, following Burns Road. (6) the Coombes Community Centre is on the left-hand side round the next left bend, opposite the Alldays shop. (7) I will be busy setting up the competitions in the room to the right of the entrance from 0930hr. Looking forward to seeing you in Royston.
