It is said to be the first book that contains some description of shogi. Only some, not much. Actually it is nothing but a rough description of rules of two types of shogi that coexisted at the time. No kifu added, sorry to eat your heart out, Mr.Sawada. The oldest kifu, by the way, is of the match fought between Sokei (Ohashi) and Sansa (Hon-Imbo) in the early 17th century, if I remember correctly. This kifu is widely known, with no worries of piracy and all. In fact, I saw it on the shogi program, Eisei-Meijin, which happened to be my third private instructor. It's interesting, in the sense that even a (ahem) player like myself wants to raise a lot of objections. I could copy it here, if I hear no objections? But surely many of you have seen it already? I wrote a short essay about older forms of shogi, which I promise to present it here soon. TAKAKO
