From: Martin Danerud EMW ERICSSON SE> Date: 22 apr 1996 Subject: Promoting shogi at a public lecture Dear shogi players, In September I am planning to promote shogi at a public lecture at the Goteborg Main library at Goteborg in Sweden. I am constructing a demonstration board using the international pieces for this purpose. Besides showing the rules of shogi, my intention is to put the game into its cultural historic context and let shogi mirror Japanese culture and history. So now I turn to you at SHOGI-L. I would like to know as many details as possible about the earliest history of shogi. I would like a collection of the earliest annotated games. I have seen that there are go games by famous Japanese historical persons. Do such games and/or connecting anecdotes exist also for shogi? Is there any video showing shogi, which could give some genuine shogi atmosphere? I have lived in Tokyo for one year, and I have heard about the city where shogi equipment is made. Does anyone have illustrating material about this city? It does not matter if this material is in Japanese or English, since I will have to transform it to suit a Swedish audience anyway. If you have printed material in Japanese or pictures I would be happy to receive that at my home address below, or you could send information in English via e-mail, or even via the SHOGI-L, if your information is of general interest. Sincerely yours, Dr Martin Danerud Oxledsvagen 61 S-433 67 Savedalen SWEDEN e-mail:emwda emw ericsson se
