From: Phil Holland BCS ORG UK> Date: 8 apr 1996 Subject: Re: SHOGIVAR.EXE As the original author of SHOGIVAR.EXE I was very pleased to read that it was being tried out in Japan. It is still a very primitive Shogi Variant playing Windows program, but I would very much like to make it better. :-) It does require a number of extra files to make it work fully: VBRUN300.DLL - as the program is written in Visual Basic 3.0 CMDIALOG.VBX and COMMDLG.DLL - to make the Windows Help file and other files available for reading or writing (eg. the re-directed board and game-score files) These files will help you to test it fully. Therefore, if you wish to email me about any of the following items, please do so directly to me, as I will be very interested in every message I receive: (a) any complaints about how the user interface works, (b) suggestions for improving the user interface, (c) any corrections to the SHOGIVAR.HLP file, (d) any bugs (and I already know of a few!), (e) any suggestions for improving the speed (note, however, that VB is not a fast language), (f) marks out of 10 for ease of use, usefulness, speed, appearance, accuracy, and anything else you wish to mark out of 10. I will try to incorporate as many suggestions as I can into the full non-Shareware version 5.0.
