I'd help you out but I don't live anywhere near Sheffield and I don't know of anyone who does. If you can't find someone you may want to consider playing either by email or by normal mail. You'll have to learn Shogi notation but that's not too difficult. If you want to play by email then consider joining the Shogi Ladder. Have a look at the files "LADDER RULES" and "LADDER STANDING" available from the listserv. Alternatively, post a message to someone on the "SHOGI-L LIST" asking if they want a game. If you want to play by normal mail then post a message to Phil Holland (phil.holland bcs org uk) asking about joining the Postal Shogi League. Phil Holland is also hosting a tournament in Royston (UK) on the 23rd of September. You may want to ask him about that as well. The best person to contact regarding the purchase of Shogi equipment in the UK is probably George Hodges. His address, taken from the "SHOGI ADDRESS" file, is "Mr. George Hodges, PO Box 77, Bromley, Kent, BR1 2WT". Ask him for a price list. Oh yes, I nearly forgot ;-). Pawns take vertically in Shogi, not diagonally. Steve Lamb.
