From: Junro Ushiki PPD HO NEC CO JP> Date: 26 oct 1995 Subject: Re: Chu Shogi "Lion" Questions How do you do? I'm Junro Ushiki (gue). I live in Chiba Pref. of Japan. Duglis has asked two questions about lion in Chu Shogi. I have little knowledge about Chu Shogi. But I can answer one of these questions. DUGLIS>1. If the lion captures without moving (igui), is there no movement DUGLIS>for that player that turn? In other words, can the lion capture via DUGLIS>igui and then can you move the lion again or another piece? No. "Igui" means "moving to an adjacent position (and in this position, the lion captures an opponent piece), and then going back". DUGLIS>2.Schmittberger talks about special rules for the lion. One of them DUGLIS>states "A lion may capture an opposing lion on a B square only if the DUGLIS>opposing lion is unprotected. A lion is considered "protected" for DUGLIS>the purpose of this rule by a pinned piece, as well as by a piece that DUGLIS>is blocked from the defense of the lion only by the attacking lion" DUGLIS> DUGLIS> What does "pinned piece" mean in this context? DUGLIS> DUGLIS> Is this rule just trying to say that a lion may not capture a lion DUGLIS>on a B square if the attacking lion will be captured on the following DUGLIS>turn? Sorry, I don't know this rule. Someone may answer this question, or I'll do so after a while. ************************************************************************ Junro Ushiki (gue) Computers Group Planning Div.
