I am somewhat discouraged by the disparagement of shogi variations on this
list, mostly, I assume by people who have not played them. First of all,
let us remember that shogi itself is just another chess variation, granted
IMHO a superior one. Without a western bias we might all refer to chess as
a shogi variation.

Secondly, having played three of these games on set that I have constructed
myself, my friends and I find them fascinating. There is a joy in
discovering a new game. We still love shogi, but some of our greatest
battles have been over a chu shogi board.

I would recommend that all shogi players check out R.J. Hares Shogi
Varients Page. I my self look forward to the day that he posts "the
Monster".

P.S. I know there is little chance of this, but are ther any computer shogi
varients?
