Hi everyone, This is the first time I've sent to the internet, so if I'm doing something wrong please forgive me & let me know. I love shogi & chess, but I know my shogi opening moves are a bit random. Does anyone know a good downloadable or commercial game I can practise them on? It needs to be a mac version. Thanks, Jon PS Does "tsume" mean endgame? From ???@??? What interests me more is possible solutions to the following problem: when both kings have escaped, but one (or both) player does not want to start moving all her/his pieces into the promotion zone because 1) (s)he would lose pieces, or 2) (s)he would lose by counting, then the rule of thumb is that counting will happen anyway when neither player can mate the other. The player who does not want to resort to counting can of course always claim he has still mating potential. What to do in those cases? Could you and the other Japanese players shed some light? Quite some time ago, the Dutch Shogi Association was discussing whether they should regulate situations like this, but at the time the consensus was to wait until this issue was dealt with in Japan rather than to go our own way. Since the situation described in the previous paragraph had never led to a problem in European Shogi events, it did not seem urgent to address it. >As an ordinary "new comer" I scarcely know the manner here. You are free to ask any question or raise any issue you like. The only thing I try to prevent is ad hominem attacks, but these are extremely rare, anyway. BTW, thanks for introducing yourself and welcome to Shogi-L. Cheers, Pieter.
