From: "Samuel H. Sloan (my real name)" AOL COM> Date: 15 oct 1995 Subject: Re: Japanese or English names Miss Watai, incidentally, is or was the Secretary of the Japan Chess Association and the right hand woman of Yasuji Matsumoto, the President. I have been in her office many times, in Kawasaki or thereabouts, I believe it was. I also met her in Dubai, 1986. Mr. Matsumoto deeply dislikes shogi and probably wants to discourage the use of shogi terms in chess. However, Mr. Matsumoto is a 4-dan shogi player and defeated me several games. I never defeated him. (I am a 2-dan shogi player, as rated by the Shinjuku Shogi Center on Yasukuni Dori in Tokyo.) Nevertheless, I stand by my statement that the top chess players in Japan use shogi terms, and do not use the terms given in Miss Watai's book. Sam Sloan
