From: WENDELL MARTIN THE-MATRIX COM> Date: 7 oct 1995 Subject: Re: King in check For what it's worth, ASCII's Kakinoki Shogi program for the 3DO won't allow a human player to move his king into check (it's illegal). Also, when a human player finds himself with no possible moves, the program doesn't react (the player just can't move anything), but if the computerized player is in stalemate, the program announces that the computerized player has lost. _Shogi: Japan's Game of Strategy_ doesn't seem to address stalemate, but it is stated in _Chess Variations_ that stalemate is illegal in Shogi. It's an extremely rare situation, but it would be nice to know the "right" way to handle it. Wendell wendell.martin the-matrix com 73737.1237 compuserve com
