From: Pieter Stouten VM TAU AC IL> Date: 31 mar 1995 Subject: Re: Shogi Variants >Who is George Hodges? > George Hodges is an English business man, who ran The Shogi Association and published a Shogi Magazine in the English language aimed at westerners for many years. He imported books and sets from Japan. He was the mastermind behind the resurrection of rare, ancient Shogi variants (tori, dai, dai-dai, maka-dai-dai, tai, wa, tenjiku shogi) that probably at some point in time were played at Japanese courts, but whose rules are often unclear. He produced and sold sets of board and pieces of these variants in small quantities. He also organized the second ever international Shogi tournament in Europe. Does that answer the question somewhat? Cheers, Pieter. -- Pieter Stouten, Senior Research Scientist Computer Aided Drug Design Group The DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Company P.O.
