Format: Tori: 5-round Swiss-McMahon tournament for the British Open Tori-Shogi Championship with even games wherever possible. Time limits will be 30 minutes each, with 30 seconds byoyomi. Prizes will be awarded to those with 4 or 5 wins. Other prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the organizers. Shogi: 3-round Swiss/McMahon tournament with even games wherever possible. The top section for dan and 1-kyu players will be played without handicaps. Time limits will be 1 hour each, with 30 seconds byoyomi. Prizes will be awarded to those with 3 wins. Other prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the organizers. Mini-Shogi (5x5 Shogi): All-play-all even game tournament. All players entered in either of the other tournaments are invited to play, with no time limits, between rounds. Games will be scored 2 points for a win, 1 point for a defeat, and 0 points for any unplayed game. Prizes will be awarded to the player with the highest points total at 1830hr. Times: Before 1000hr Registration 1015hr Shogi round 1 and Tori round 1 1145hr Tori round 2 1330hr Shogi round 2 1400hr Tori round 3 1530hr Tori round 4 1600hr Shogi round 3 1700hr Tori round 5 1830hr Prize giving By car: Royston is on the intersection of the A10, A1198 (formerly A14) and A505 By train: >From King's Cross, London, to Royston (via Finsbury Park, Stevenage and Hitchin) approximately every 30 minutes on Saturday. From Cambridge to Royston approximately every hour on Saturday. It is about a 15 minute walk to the Coombes Community Centre from the station and taxis are generally available at the station. Refreshments: Free tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day. Lunch can be obtained from a variety of pubs, restaurants and snack bars in Royston town centre, and a fast food shop immediately opposite the venue. Accommodation: A complete list of hotels and guest houses in and around Royston may be obtained by writing to Phil Holland. All accommodation should be booked by the competitors themselves, as the organizers are unable to recommend specific hotels or guest houses.
