Hitoshi Matsubara ------------------------------------------------------- LEARN SHOGI BEGINNERS' COURSE IN JAPANESE CHESS AT THE TOKYO SHOGI KAIKAN >From February 23, Harue Tanigawa, Ladies' Professional 3-dan, is offering foreigners living in Japan a unique opportunity to study Shogi (Japanese chess) in English at the headquarters of the Japan Shogi Association in Sendagaya, Shibuya-ku. The aim of the course is to promote this exciting and profound game as an important aspect of traditional japanese culture. The course will start with a free trial lesson where the basics will be explained and participants presented with free Shogi sets or other Shogi-related goods. Enrollments will then be accepted for the course, to be held twice a month, every 2nd and 4th Thursday from 6.00 pm to 8.15pm. The fee will be 1,000 Yen each time. There is no registration free. Ms. Tanigawa will be assisted by Minoru Moriguchi, Amateur 5-dan, and Richard Sams, Amateur 3-dan.
