As far as I know  the bilingual books by Aono are still available.

   *   Shogi Joseki no Kagi/Guide to Shogi Openings,
       Aono Teruichi (tr. John Fairbairn), Tokyo 1983,
       published by Sankaido Ltd. [ISBN 4-381-00598-8]

       This is the book mentioned by Jonathan Tisdall (15 aug). In my opinion
       it's very good for beginners.
       This book is the follow up of a book that is only available in Japanese
       (as far as I know):

   *   Shogi Joseki-sho,        (Shogi openings)
       Aono Teruichi, Tokyo 1983,
       published by Sankaido Ltd. [ISBN ??? ]


   *   Koko o naoseba tsuyoku naru/Better moves for better shogi,
       Aono Teruichi (tr. John Fairbairn), Tokyo 1983,
       published by Sankaido Ltd. [ISBN ??? ]

       This is the book known as "Aono's White book". Reijer became almost
poetical
       when he wrote about it:

       Of course, I totally agree with Reijer in his evaluation. But it
wouldn't
       make much sense to flood Mr. Onogi with requests, because the book isn't
       published by the Shogi Renmei...
