From: Malcolm Maynard VM TAU AC IL> Date: 13 apr 1995 Subject: Shogi, NHK and Subtitles, anyone? One question here and I think anyone reading this in Japan would have a better chance of answering it... Is it possible to buy from NHK video tapes on shogi (instructional, matches, etcetera) that are subtitled for those of us who enjoy shogi but don't understand the Japanese language? I've gotten copies of a couple of matches broadcast on NHK. While interesting to watch the games, I am hampered by the fact I cannot understand a word of the colour commentary and all the rest of it. So, it occured to me that just *maybe* NHK would have available a service selling video tapes of their programs, including those on Shogi, subtitled into other languages. The only reason this occured to me was because we get "Today's Japan," by NHK which is all in English. Anyway, if anyone out there knows of a service NHK would have to buy tapes from them (especially re Shogi) that are subtitled, I for one would be most interested in it. -- +-------------------------------------------+--------------------+ | -=< Malcolm Bruce Maynard >=- | Taxi Driver from | | E-MAIL: malcolm_maynard mindlink bc ca | Greater Vancouver | +-------------------------------------------+--------------------+
