I've heard the term shobute used in Go.
The Internet Go server "translate" command translates it to "do-or-die".
It seems to be used when the player thinks he should resign but
can't quite bring himself to... (I win too many of my games this way 8^) )

Am I right in thinking the connotations are different from "hamate"
or trick play (IGS only has "hamari" -- to be tricked) ?

And while we're at it, how does a trick play differ from an "overplay" ?
