Neither is remaining in check and letting your king be captured. We are grown ups: if you let your king remain in check, you deserve to lose. There's a funny story here: once upon a time in Belgium, the strongest ever European Shogi player living in Europe (no pleonasm here) Mike Sandeman played against "lowly kyu" player Ian Spence. In a winning mood Mike did not notice that Ian had given check. As Ian pointed it out after Mike's next move Mike turned so red that lobsters would envy him (ever seen Mike blush ? a rare occasion, indeed). Ian, fearing for his life and being the gentleman he is, proposed that Mike take his move back. I have never seen Mike react so fast ... What does this all mean ? No idea, it's just a story to end the old year. May next year be better ! Happy New Year, Pieter.
