From: Pieter Stouten CHEMSCI1 ES DUPONT COM> Date: 12 apr 1994 Subject: H O W T O D E A L W I T H T E C H N I O N The following is just a reminder of how to communicate with the listserver where SHOGI-L resides and how to post to SHOGI-L. There is still some confusion about posting to SHOGI-L. Therefore this explanation about how it all works. This file should also automatically be sent to all new subscribers to the list. One thing that must be clear is the fundamental difference between the List Server technion technion ac il> technion bitnet> and the Shogi Discussion List technion technion ac il> technion bitnet> LISTSERV -------- Basically, the List Server must be addressed in two cases: 1) when you want to register with a specific list or, after registering, when you want to change or query your options related to this registration. 2) when you want to retrieve files from an archive maintained by this List Server. Addressing the List Server must be done using standard commands e.g. subscribe shogi-l John Doe set shogi-l repro get shogi game23 In order to find out which files are available for retrieval, you send the command "Index Shogi-L" to the List Server. If you want to know your distribution options, you send the command "Query Shogi-L". To find out who else subscribes, you send the command "Review Shogi-L". All such commands have to be sent to the List Server. SHOGI-L ------- The Shogi Discussion List is a redistribution list, which redistributes all incoming mail to the subscribers to the list. This mail does not need special headers or commands. It is redistributed unmoderated and unchanged. Everybody who subscribes to SHOGI-L is authorized to have his/her mail redistributed. If you (as subscriber) get messages that you are not authorized to post to SHOGI-L, please check if you are working from the same node as the one you registered from or if the full internet address of your node is still the same or if there are any known problems with gateways affecting you. Your local network personnel should be able to help you out with this. Having explained this all, I expect everybody to post all his/her Shogi information, requests and musings. Cheers, Pieter.
