I find Tori Shogi highly frustrating because pawns (called swallows here) "promote" to a WEAKER pieces. Also, most pieces have little or no horizontal capabilities. There are quite a few Englishmen who are avid Tori players (among others Matthew McFadyan, who also plays a decent game of Go). For what reason I cannot fathom: excentrism ? losing an empire and winning it back in Tori Shogi ? masochism ? an attempt to revive Monty Python ? Whatever the reason, I can give you names (and maybe addresses) of some English Tori players. Just drop a line if you want them. Cheers (almost weekend), Pieter.
