Actually, there is a shogi program available for the IBM-PC through Ishi Press. It runs about $50.00, and plays, if I remember correctly, at about 3-4 kyu. In addition, there are shogi cartridges available for the Famicom (the Japanese version of the Nintendo Entertainment System), Super Famicom (the Japanese version Super Nintendo Entertainment System), Megadrive (the Japanese Sega Genesis or Sega Megadrive), PC Engine (Japanese TG-16 or Duo) as well as the Game Boy. Also, there are at least two tsume-shogi cartridges available for the Game Boy. To the best of my knowledge there is no software for the Sega Game Gear. The most advanced one is a recent release for the Super Famicom, which incorporates a special co-processor to supplement the Super Famicom's main processor -- it costs about 14200 yen in Japan, and about $160 from U.S. importers. It is playable on U.S. Super Nintendos. It is currently on the best seller lists in Japan for the Super Famicom. You should be able to get it by special order through most Japanese game importers (i.e. Die Hard, or Yaohan Pony Toy Go Round in the U.S., possibly Telegames in England).
