From: Matthias Mutz KIRK FMI UNI-PASSAU DE> Date: 5 jul 1993 Subject: challenge button for XShogi *** XShogi extension : new "challenge" button *** I would like to report about a new button in the XShogi program (XShogi is an X Windows interface for GNU Shogi; the sources of the two programs are freely distributed by the GNU project; UNIX platforms). After pressing the new "challenge" button, XShogi asks for a remote display you want to connect with. Then it creates a XShogi board on the remote display (if your host is allowed to connect). After pressing "force" (on one of the two displays), you can engage a two human player game using XShogi as a common interface! WARNING: this is the first try. It works on our machines, but I couldn't try it out on other machines. If you would like to try it out, please read "challenge.readme" in the distribution directory. Don't be angry in case of problems, just mail me. Pleasy, mail also in case of success, so that I know if I am on the right way. You can retrieve the new sources by anonymous FTP from forwiss.fmi.uni-passau.de (132.231.1.10) changing directory to pub/local/shogi. Get "xshogi-1.1.pl03.tar.gz". Have fun, Matthias. mutz kirk fmi uni-passau de
