From: The Blues is the Healer <92kmotorka GW WMICH EDU> Date: 29 jan 1993 Subject: Castling Hello. I am relatively new to shogi and this list. I have ordered the much talked about book, _Beginner's Guide To Shogi_, but in the meantime, I have a question concerning something that keeps coming up in the files I look through from the shogi list. This is castling and castling problems. What exactly does this refer to? I assume it has something to do with protecting the king, but specifically how? Also, in the LADDER STANDING file, is there any way to know how strong a player is? Some list it before the name, but most don't. I'm about a 999kyu--a special classification they've invented just for me--but I'm in the middle of my first e-mail game and have been thinking of maybe trying the ladder. With only 20+ names, however, I get the feeling it would be like walking into a firing range with a bull's eye painted on my rump. Thanks for castling info. Any body have any of these problems for posting, like the Tsume problems? +-------------------------------+------------------------------------+ | Chris Kmotorka | Time is that without which you | | Dept of English | cannot be late! | | Western Michigan University | | | Kalamazoo MI 49008 | The Blues is the Healer | | 92kmotorka gw wmich edu | -John Lee Hooker- | +-------------------------------+------------------------------------+
