Subject: Shogi Proverbs

John Fairbairns booklet 'Learn to Play Shogi' contains a long list of shogi
proverbs along with the claim that they are very useful. I intend to compile
and post a list of these proverbs for the benefit of other beginners such as
myself.
 
The proverbs are intended to be self-explanatory (though some seem a bit
obscure).
 
If you have any favourite shogi proverbs, please mail them to me and I will
include them in the list.
 
If you are a player of decent standard and can provide examples of the
situations encapsulated in the proverbs, please send those as well - a list of
proverbs with explanations would be quite useful (at least it would for
me...).
