This is true. In handicap games the player who gives handicap is called "uwate"
and the player who gets a handicap is called "shitate". However, these terms are
 
rarely used so I didn't put them in the list of terms.
About the story that taking away pieces as a first move: I have been told that
story too, but I am not so sure if this is true, legend or just made up by
someone.
