The latest unofficial versions of GNU Shogi and GNU XShogi
can be found at ftp.forwiss.uni-passau.de (132.231.1.10)
in the directory pub/local/shogi.

At the moment, there's no difference to the official version at
the GNU sites (GNU Shogi 1.1). I'll post to Shogi-l if a new
unofficial version is available.

I'm currently working on GNU Shogi 1.2. Beta testers are welcome,
but I do not want to distribute the sources, yet. You may try
executables for SPARC and Macintosh (text version). Kazuhiko Seki
is working on the Macintosh graphical version (executable only).
