Initially, ShogiMaster was rated in Japan at 2-kyu, but subsequent tournament play has brought this to a more realistic 6-kyu. As I recall from debugging ShogiMaster, Kakinoki's program was so weak at endgames that I had to drop the tsume-shogi feature (which was embar- rassingly bad). Does anyone know how much Kakinoki's program has improved? Has anyone developed a program which is proficient at tsume-shogi? What ranks are the best programs now? And do any (besides Crane Shogi) run on the Mac?
