I play go a lot on the internet these days via the IGS (internet go server). There is also an internet chess server, and someone is in the process of setting up a chinese chess server. perhaps the shogi world needs a shogi server? IGS allows me to play go any time of the day or night (as long as someone else is logged in to the server) with a nice graphics display in an Xwindow client. the server records the game and mails the record to me afterwards, keeps the game clock, etc. I haven't been playing shogi at least in part because i have no partners, and am not patient enough for email/postal games. The IGS also allows others to watch a game in progress and comment to each other (ie. kibitz, invisible to the players). this is a great teaching/learning tool. albyn jones reed edu
