Every bit of >news I see is strictly European. > Yes, there are quite a few Americans who play Shogi. Maybe they are not on any network. It also surprises me that so little news comes from America. Over 50% of Shogi-L (70 out of 123 subscribers) are Americans and I would have expected lots of activities from them. On the other hand, 6 active European Shogi organizers (including the present European Champion) are on Shogi-L and that of course helps in distributing information. More important than possible reasons for the lack of American Shogi news is how to change the situation. I am willing to pass on any American news (i.e. open tournament announcements and results) to Shogi-L provided I don't have to type much. Short messages or information on an electronic medium (floppy or e-mail) are fine. That is all anybody at this side can do. The 70 American subscribers to Shogi-L can of course do much more: if they are really interested in Shogi news or in playing Shogi over the board, they can get in touch with one of the Shogi communities in the states. For this reason I posted a list of American Shogi contacts on 1 Sep 1992, but I don't know if it had any effect. I also advertised Shogi-L in the newsletter of the DC Shogi Club, but I have no idea if that helped either. I think that subscribing to the DC Shogi Club newsletter would be interesting for anybody in America who is interested in Shogi and I encourage you all to do it. And who knows, maybe some of you may find the time to pass news from the newsletter on to Shogi-L ! Please contact the DC Shogi Club c/o Don Connors, 2100 Lee Hwy, Suite 115, Arlington, VA 22201; Tel. (703) 358-9390 for more information. Let's make Shogi-L strictly global !
