From: Pieter Stouten EMBL-HEIDELBERG DE> Date: 3 nov 1992 Subject: German Open Shogi Championship (final announcement) The Second German Open Shogi Championship, 14th and 15th November 1992. ======================================================================= (final announcement / information for participants) * History: Last year Shogi Deutschland e.V. organized the German Open Shogi Championship for the first time. With 30 participants and 3 European Champions among them it was a great success, and the championship was promptly awarded the status of Grand Prix tournament. We are determined to make this year's Championship an even greater success. So try to make it and score your first points in the 1992-1993 Grand Prix season ! * Time Table: The tournament will take place Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th November 1992. The first round will start on Saturday 14th November at 10:00 hours sharp. Arrival on the evening of Friday 13th November is recommended. * Venue: Gesamtdeutsche Bildungsstaette, Himmighausen-Bahnhof 57c, 3493 Nieheim, Germany. Nieheim is located in the beautiful Teutoburg Forest between Bad Pyrmont and Paderborn, only 210 km East of Nijmegen, Holland. Overnight accommodation for a maximum of 55 players is available at the playing venue. * Arrival by train: Trains regularly call at the town of Altenbeken, which is close to the playing venue. Transport from Altenbeken to the playing venue in Himmighausen-Bahnhof (a district of Nieheim) will be provided to those players who inform the organizers beforehand of their time of arrival at Altenbeken. Players who want to use this service are requested to arrive at Altenbeken on Friday 13th November before 19:30 hours. * Arrival by car: Take the Autobahn (motor way) from Dortmund to Kassel. Take exit Paderborn and follow road signs Bad Driburg. From Bad Driburg follow road signs Bad Meinberg. Himmighausen-Bahnhof (a district of Nieheim) is located on the road from Bad Driburg to Bad Meinberg. The playing venue can be found at the left side of this road, just before a viaduct. * Format: The championship is open to all Shogi players irrespective of strength or nationality. It will be contested over six rounds (3 each day) of 1 hour plus 30 seconds byoyomi per player per game. A Swiss-McMahon system with one large group will be employed, which ensures interesting games for participants of all strengths. * Costs: The tournament fee is 10 DM for members of Shogi Deutschland e.V. and 20 DM for all others. We have negotiated lump sum prices and are able to offer full board for the entire weekend for only 80 DM. This comprises dinner and accommodation on Friday 13, breakfast, lunch, dinner and accommodation on Saturday 14, and breakfast and lunch on Sunday 15 November.
