Dear Jonathan,
            not only do you have the pleasure of learning to play Shogi,
but also the pleasure of meeting Pieter Stouten for the first time. I
really don't know which is the greater pleasure. As you may know Pieter
was the International Relations Officer for Shogi Deutschland, and a
more tactful, diplomatic and polite person you could never wish to meet,
I can't wait until he goes to the States either. Bon Voyage Pieter! I hope

   In answer to your other question (about equipment) Boards are available
in the States and you could maybe get in touch with one of the people
listed in the "American contacts" list that Pieter recently posted on Shogi-L.
