As far as getting an "International" board or the Japanese board, don't
buy an International board just because you don't think you can learn
the Japanese characters. My friends got me a Japanese Shogi board
last Christmas, and I picked up the characters a lot more quickly
than I thought I would. Impress your friends!
 
BTW, does Ishi sell replacement pieces? My cat decided to hide some
of them on me ;)
