Therefore to honor Pieter's contribution to Shogi in Germany and "to play some Shogi and have some fun", Alan Sawyer and I are pleased to announce THE EMBL PIETER STOUTEN MEMORIAL HANDICAP TOURNAMENT 25 and 26 April 1992 at the EMBL, Meyerhofstrasse 1, 6900 Heidelberg. The first round will start at 10:30 on Saturday morning, 25 April, at EMBL in room 202. The time limit per game and number of rounds will depend on how many players we have. The handicap system to be employed will be a slightly modified version of the standard handicapping system used in Shogi (based on the difference in rated strength of the two players). Participants are requested to bring sets and clocks (if they have them). We may have up to 30 players of seven different nationalities. 11 Dan players have shown interest in playing ! At this moment we have confirmation of entry from two 4-dans, one 3-dan, one 2-dan, one 1-dan, and many lower and higher kyu players. Free accommodation is available on a first come first served basis. People who want to enjoy Heidelberg and do some sightseeing can come earlier. Please let us know soon if you need overnight accommodation. Get excited, start studying and let's have some fun playing Shogi. Please come. It will be great.
