As for Spearing the Sparrow,
according to large shogi dictionary ( edited by Kato 9 dan ),
that is an attack style and a line of Yagura,
which attack at edge ( 1st file in the case of Sente) by lance and rook.
The rook is under the lance.
Bishop and knight also help attack the edge attack powerfully.
