From: Pieter Stouten EMBL BITNET> Date: 14 may 1991 Subject: Special Tournament Announcement ! S P E C I A L T O U R N A M E N T A N N O U N C E M E N T =========================================================== A recent proposal to organize an international team match with national teams aroused lots of positive reactions. A similar event, however, is regularly organized by the Dutch Shogi Association (NShB) in the beginning of June. For some unknown reason this event is not well known among Shogi players. Personally, I think this is a great pity. This year 1991, the double-event as it is called takes place on 1-st and 2-nd June, and it consists of two separate one-day tournaments: + A team match for teams of four players. National or club teams are preferred, but everybody can assemble a team of his choice, even at the day of the tournament. + A quick-play tournament. Participation in one tournament and not the other is possible. The venue is: Dorpshuis H.F. Witte, Henri Dunantplein, De Bilt (near Utrecht), the Netherlands. Registration on 1-st June at 10.00 hours. Apart from the normal contingent of Dutch Shogi players at least 5 players from Germany as well as former European Champion Hans Secelle will take part in both events. I can provide information about cheap overnight accomodation. I think it would be too much to post it to the list, but if you would like to have that info feel free to ask. If you are interested in taking part please contact the organizer directly: Marc Theeuwen, Oude Groenewoudseweg 158, 6524 WD Nijmegen, Netherlands. Telephone: +31-80-220 858. Final details (e.g. how to reach the venue by car) can be obtained from him, too. Some final musings: + I am writing this letter on my own account and not as a representative of any organization. I just think that the double-event is too good an opportunity to miss to play Shogi in a somewhat different fashion and have lots of fun. + Please convey the information contained in this letter to as many Shogi players as possible. + I do hope to meet you and your fellow-players at the double-event !
