From: Pieter Stouten EMBL BITNET> Date: 12 jul 1991 Subject: Murooka 6-dan. Meijin Title Match. David Murphy. European As of today the complete 49-th Meijin Title Match 1991 (5 games) between Nakahara Makoto (Meijin) and Yonenaga Kunio (challenger) is available from the archive. Game scores were submitted by Reijer Grimbergen, the comment is provided by Murooka Katsuhiko for which I am very grateful. I have checked games and comment but did not find time yet to get a second opinion. Since I am going away for 3 weeks starting next Sunday (not only for holiday, mind you !) I thought I should not keep anybody waiting any longer and make it available now. Please inform me of any errors, typos and the like. Some pleasant news: our regular source of very useful Shogi material Murooka Katsuhiko has been promoted to 6-dan professional on 22-nd May 1991 (yes I know that is already ages ago, I am sorry). He deserves our sincere congratulations. I just saw an article in Shukan Shogi (Shogi Weekly) about David Murphy, European Champion, who now takes part in the amateur Ryu O tournament in Japan. Can somebody please translate the article ? Can't think of anything else, right now. Please remember that the European Championship takes place 1, 2, 3 November. First group open to dan-players; lower group(s) to everybody from rank beginners (YES !) to 1-kyu. IT is staged somewhere in Kent and British Shogi Federation (BSF) organizes it. Please don't hesitate to ask for information: Mike Coyne, 11 Highridge, Darland, Gillingham, Kent, England. FESA rep. Les Blackstock, 48 Harvey Gardens, London, SE7 8AJ, England. President. That's all. Cheers, Pieter.
