From: atkinson VAXROM CERN CH Date: 30 aug 1991 Subject: Oh dear, oh dear The "Citta` del Sole" has asked me to do a Shogi simul some time in September. I told them I wasn't really anyone at all, and that my doing a simul would be a bit silly. They said they appreciated this, but that there wasn't really anyone else. I suppose as long as whatever "advance publicity" there is for this makes it clear that I can tell people what the pieces are and can stop them from making illegal moves, and that's about it, it should be ok. I suppose I _am_ probably the strongest non-Japanese Shogi player in Rome, but only because I am the only non-Japanese Shogi player in Rome :-). What do the real simul merchants (i.e. the dan players) out there think of this? Also, one of the games "circles" in Rome has decided to invest in Go and Shogi. They can call upon the services of the Rome Go Club for an intro Go course, and want me to do an intro Shogi one. Again, I have said I can't really do much beyond "what the moves are", although I could relay some of the proverbs and so on from "Shogi from Beginners" and "SHOGI". Make castle with three generals, and away from Rook. Some Tesuji examples, etc. Again, as long as I don't claim to be something I am not, I suppose I can get away with doing this. I can't imagine Mr Waketa being available for such a purpose, and he's the only other player I know of. Hey ho.
