From: atkinson VAXROM CERN CH Date: 13 apr 1991 Subject: To play is to live Well, I think it's pretty naff, but it's the title of a games congress/ convention thing that will happen in Rome on June 12-16. I phoned one of the organisers and they seem alarmingly vague about exactly what they expect to happen at this event. Since he had never heard of Shogi or of PBM games I volunteered to do something about PBM. Are there any Italian-speaking reasonable standard Shogi players on the list? (Maurizio, for instance?). I will contact the Japanese Cultural Center in Rome as a first attempt though. (I might also ask the organisers if they have thought of contacting embassies/cultural centres). (I am Italian-speaking, but I am NOT a reasonable standard Shogi player. I could explain the rules and beat people who were playing their first game, but that's about all. Mr Waketa organises Go tournaments in Rome, and played Shogi with me last year when we had free afternoons on the same day, so he's probably my best bet.) I will say more about this when I know more - I will meet one of the people behind it tomorrow. It will be at the Palazzo dei Congressi in EUR, which is rather an up-market place.
