From: Pieter Stouten EMBL BITNET> Date: 12 sep 1990 Subject: Ishi Press International's Shogi World arrived ! Forwarded mail. Originally from Adam Atkinson . Shock! Horror! I finally got 6 copies of Ishi Press International's "Shogi World" magazine today. It was posted over 2 months ago, but then that's Italian mail for you. It's on astonishingly lightweight paper, and is clearly aimed at beginners. The diagrams use the initial letters of the names of the pieces in English, so are in some sense less international than Japanese diagrams! The contents are clearly aimed at beginners. If you have already worked your way through the Hodges magazines, you aren't going to learn a lot from Ishi's offering, or at least not yet. The famed Glyndon Townhill seems to be the editor. (Is he still a better player than Kaufman, does anyone know?) There are small numbers of games, and lots of chat. I think it deserves some sort of support, anyway. It HAS to start off easy, simply because there is probably more market for easy Shogi magazines in English than for difficult ones. Anyway. It really does exist.
