From: Pieter Stouten EMBL BITNET> Date: 9 sep 1990 Subject: Tidbits: analyses invited -- snail-mail Shogi -- Mac Shogi Hi Shogi fans, Just received a postcard from Reijer Grimbergen from Japan. Japan surpasses his wildest expectations. Unfortunately, his absence resulted in the meagre harvest of one (1) posting. On Sat, 8 Sep 1990 19:49:55 CET, Asle Olufsen IFI UIO NO> posted an e-mail game between him and Mr. Grinch, including comment. He invites others to comment on it as well. I can only suggest to everybody to exactly do this. Analysing games and exchanging opinions helps you improve a lot when you can't play that often against people of flesh and blood. I am willing to compile all analyses into some sort of consensus analysis and put the game in the archive. In his posting, Asle also suggested an alternative e-mail ASCII board. Please, comment on it, otherwise we will all be stuck with the board now available from the SHOGI-L archive ! Some news for people who want to get engaged in snail-mail games, because e-mail games go too quick [information from Shoten, the magazine of the British Shogi Federation, issue 22, July 1990]: the postal Shogi league has now 50 members and is still expanding. Grades range from 15-kyu to 3-dan. 404 league games are in progress. In order to join or to get more information, please contact the coordinator Phil Holland directly at the following address: 11 Honeyway, Royston, Herts SG8 7ES,England. Tel. +44-763 244 497. The English version of Shogi 0.21, the program for the Macintosh, is ready. The ReadMe file is currently being prepared. As soon as everything is ready, I'll upload it to the archive. These were all tidbits for now. Cheers. Pieter Stouten embl bitnet>
