From: Chris Sterritt ADMS-RAD UNISYS COM> Date: 4 jun 1990 Subject: The ladder begins! Hello, The Shogi Ladder officially begins! The following people are the ones who have asked to be on the ladder so far. Please feel free to join! I understand that some games are already in progress, and so this is just the 'first cut' at the ladder; please let me know if you have a game going that you want considered for ladder competition. This should be by agreement of both players; that is, if one player is not going to be on the ladder, then the game should not be considered. In the next posting I make, I will send the official Ladder rules. There are two points to make about the rules: first, so far we only have five players, but the 'number one through five must respond or lose their position' will hold. This is to avoid confusion later on. Secondly, the 'approved' board is still under discussion, but the agreement-by-both-players option makes that easy for now. I am the ladder coordinator; my email address is chris adms-rad unisys com which is an Internet address. If you can't send me email, tell me so via the Shogi-L board, and we'll try to work something out. The initial, randomly-placed ladder rankings: 1. Joe Kennedy KENNEDY cvax ipfw indiana edu 2. Terry Asher TA2321S DRAKE BITNET 3. John Kenney KENNEY EMBL BITNET 4. Pieter Stouten STOUTEN EMBL BITNET 5. Chris Sterritt chris adms-rad unisys com I will update this with a fourth column to indicate games in progress when you either let me know of a game in progress, or start a new game via a challenge. Note, this is going out to both the Chess-L and Shogi-L groups, but FEEL FREE to tell other people about it! We'd love to improve the number of people. Also please note that you may have asked me to add your name to the ladder, and you're not there: Please forgive me, I've been pretty busy lately. Just drop me a note, I'm organized now! thanks, chris sterritt
