From: Pieter Stouten EMBL BITNET> Date: 11 jul 1990 Subject: Shogi playing program for the Macintosh: found ! OK, everybody with a Macintosh, here it comes: "Shogi", a Shogi playing program for the Macintosh. I only had one nasty crash (not reproducable), which might or might not have had anything to do with "Shogi", but then I run 20+ INITs. If it had anything to do with "Shogi", it was probably selecting the sound option that did it. It works on a MacII, I'll try it later today on a MacPlus as well. The program is very week, it has one advantage: it is Public Domain. It has one disadvantage: it works best with KanjiTalk, the Japanese Operating System for the Macintosh ($60 from APDA -- which is worth the money anyway, I'd say). Without KanjiTalk the menu items are a bit gibberish, looking like @'%"g? and so on. Since most Mac-users know what the menus would look like this is not a big problem. There are also icons accompanying the (textual) menu items, which makes it easier to select the proper ones. Also, most items are dimmed, anyway. I would say, try it out. I have not yet permission to upload it to one of the Mac-archives. So for the time being, if you want a copy, please let me know and I'll send you a StuffIt'ed BinHex'ed file. Cheers, Pieter Stouten embl bitnet>.
