97-June-11: Challenger Koji Tanigawa defeated Meijin Yoshiharu Habu by a final score of 4-2. This is Tanigawa's 5th Meijin Match victory and thus earns him the 17th Lifetime Meijin title (post-retirement). Tanigawa now holds the two most prestigious titles in shogi: Meijin and Ryuo. Habu has been reduced to "only" 4 titles: Oi, Kio, Oza, and Osho.
