Solution to Problem 88

Solution: 1. G*2c +Bx2c
2. B*3a +B-2b
3. Bx2b+ Kx2b
4. P*2c K-2a
5. +R-3a Kx3a
6. B*1c K-3b
7. B-2b+ mate (13 moves)

    Variations:
  • 2... X*2b 3. P*1d +Bx1d 4. +R-3c +B-2c 5. Bx2b+ K-1d 6. +Rx2c mate (11 moves, koma-amari)
  • 4... K-1a 5. B*2b K-2a 6. +R-3a mate (11 moves)

  • This tsume is perfect. The "obvious" 1.P*1d made me think a long time before going to the right path !! This week's problems [see also TC 87] have the two first moves in common : drawing back the most defensive piece by two squares to eliminate its power. - EC
