  • Anton Starykevich European champion 2023 (Aug, 2023)

    This year's ESC/WOSC took place in a very nice venue, the Pavillon Josephine surrounded by the Parc de l'Orangerie in Strasbourg, France from July 27th - 30th. With 136 participants there was a new record number of participants.
    Special guests at the event were professional players Mr. Akio Ishikawa (7-dan), Mr. Shohei Takada (7-dan), Ms. Madoka Kitao (ladies professional 2-dan) and teaching professional Mr. Yasushi Ishikawa (4-dan), who all showed great passion in having many teaching games with many of the particpants.

    Anton Starykevich (BY) won the European championship by winning the final against Thomas Leiter (DE). 3rd place went to Maxim Shaparov (BY).

    Anton Starykevich (BY) won also the WOSC with winning all games except a last round loss against Stephen Lamb (GB). 2nd place in the WOSC went to Thomas Leiter who also scored 8 wins. Last year's WOSC winner Kasey Nishimoto (JP) took the 3rd place with seven points, the same score was also reached by newcomer Joost Berkvens (NL).

    The blitz tournament was won by Kasey Nishimoto (JP) ahead of Hijikata Yusei (JP) and Anton Starykevich (BY). 68 players participated in the blitz tournament.

    The team tournament was won by team Nifuribisha (Thomas Leiter, Anton Borysov, Felix McPeake). On 2nd place came team 'Triple K' (Kazushi Shibutani, Keigo Suzuki, Kensuke Tsutsui) and 3rd team 'Young and Old' (Yusei Hijikata, Keita Obata, Konomu Obata). 26 teams particpated in the team tournament.

  • ESC/WOSC 2023 in Strasbourg, July 27th - 30th (Jun 12, 2023)

    About 60 players have already registered for the ESC/WOSC 2023 in Strasbourg. Please check out the official website at http://esc2023.shogi.fr/.
    Also some professional shogi players will come to the event and will be available for teaching games and game analysis.

  • ESC/WOSC 2023 in Strasbourg, July 27th - 30th (Dec 26, 2022)

    The 38th European Shogi Championship / World Open Shogi Championship 2023 will take place in Strasbourg, France from July 27th until July 30th.
    The venue will be the "Pavillon Josephine" located in the middle of "Parc de l'Orangerie".

  • ESC/WOSC 2022 Ludwigshafen - Uladzislau Zakrzheuski European champion 2022 (Aug 10, 2022)

    The 2022 European Shogi Championship/World Open Shogi Championship (ESC/WOSC) was held in Ludwigshafen, Germany between July 28th and 31st.
    Professional players Mr. Shohei Takada (7-dan), Ms. Madoka Kitao (ladies professional 2-dan) and Ms. Karolina Styczynska (ladies professional 1-dan) attended the event and were playing many teaching games.

    New European champion became Uladzislau Zakrzheuski (BY), who won the final against Jean Fortin (FR). In the match for 3rd place Anton Starykevich (BY) won against Thomas Leiter (DE).

    Kasey Nishimoto (JP) took the title in the WOSC with a perfect score of 9/9 followed by the new European champion Uladzislau Zakrzheuski (BY) and Jean Fortin (FR). 87 players competed in the WOSC tournament.

    Kasey Nishimoto (JP) won also the blitz tournament. On second place finished Karolina Styczynska, who gave a rook handicap in her games and third became Tomita Keiji (US). 57players participated in the blitz tournament. //

    The team tournament was won by 'Triple K' (Kazushi Shibutani, Kensuke Tsutsui, Keigo Suzuki), three Japanese players living in Germany. Second place was team 'Minsk Shogi Dojo' (Anton Starykevich, Peter Shcheslionok, Sergey Lysenka) and on third place 'Ginkammuri' (Eugeny Iglitsky, Yaroslav Kondratov, Alexey Mahnach). 18 teams played in the team tournament.

  • FESA condemns war of agression against Ukraine (Feb 25, 2022)

    As an organization to foster peaceful international exchange and friendship FESA strongly regrets and condemns the war of aggression by Russian forces against Ukraine. Ukrainian shogi players have been active participants of tournaments and events in Europe. Many European players have fond memories of the European and World Open Shogi Championships 2017 in Kyiv and the hospitality experienced there. Today's pictures of Kyiv under attack sadden us. We join with our voice to call for an immediate stop of these attacks. Our thoughts these days are with the Ukrainian shogi friends and their families.

  • ESC/WOSC 2022 relocated to Ludwigshafen (Jun 26, 2022)

    Due to some organizational problems the ESC/WOSC 2022 had to be relocated from the city of Mannheim to Ludwigshafen . The new location is the Heinrich Pesch Hotel in the city of Ludwigshafen and is about 6 km from the originally planned location, reachable with the same local tram system.

  • ESC/WOSC 2022 in Mannheim, July 28th - 31st (Mar 23, 2022)

    The official website at http://www.esc2022.shogideutschland.de/index.php is now available. Registrations for the tournaments is open and all the information can be found there.
    The venue is Youth hostel Mannheim International, Rheinpromenade 21, 68163 Mannheim, Germany.

  • With the war of aggression by Russian forces in the Ukraine ongoing, FESA has resolved the following subsequent to the declaration from February 25, 2022: (Mar 13, 2022)

    The Russian and Belarusian Shogi Federations are to abstain from voting in the General Assembly of FESA until further notice. Furthermore both countries are not eligible to host to the European Shogi Championship and the World Open Shogi Championship (ESC/WOSC) until the year 2025. To underline its mission to foster international understanding, peace and friendship among the people FESA will refrain from displaying national symbols like flags at its tournament and events.

  • ESC/WOSC 2022 in Mannheim, July 28th - 31st (October 16, 2021)

    Next year's ESC/WOSC will be held in Mannheim, Germany, from July 28th to July 31st.

  • Sergey Korchitsky European Champion 2021 and winner of WOSC in Minsk

    The postponed European Shogi Championship/World Open Shogi Championship (ESC/WOSC) was held in Minsk, Belarus, between August 19th and 22nd 2021. Though the Covid-19 travel restrictions less players were able to participate, but thanks to the organizers the event was a great success. The top games were broadcasted live and board 1 was with live video coverage as well.

    In the final of the ESC the two top rated European players fought for the title. Sergey Korchitsky (BY) secured his second European championship title by beating Vincent Tanyan (BY). 3rd place was taken by Anton Starykevich (BY) by beating Russian youngster Denis Titov (RU).

    Sergey Korchitsky (BY) continued his winning streak in the WOSC and won all his games in an impressive manner. Anton Starykevich (BY) and Vincent Tanyan (BY) switched places compared to the ESC and both finished with 7 points. 67 players participated in the WOSC.

    Anton Starykevich (BY) was too fast for everyone at the blitz tournament and he won all games. Second became Anton Mahin (BY) ahead of Denis Titov (RU).

    The team tournament was won by the international 'Dream Team' (Peter Shcheslionok (BY), Thomas Pfaffel (AT), Boris Savich (BY)), who won all their matches and individual games. 'Russia 3' (Dmitry Rodin, Vladimir Medvedev, Danila Biryukov) finished on second place and team 'We Tried' (Anton Mahin (BY), Sergey Matmusaev (BY), Victor Balabhai (RU)) became third.

  • ESC/WOSC 2021 in Minsk, August 19th - 22th

    FESA has decided that the last year postponed ESC/WOSC will be held in Minsk, Belarus. The venue is Hotel Belarus, vul. Storozhovskaya 15, Minsk, Belarus.

  • 1st European Online Rapid Cup - Sergey Korchitsky takes the first place (Jan 2, 2021)

    30 representatives played at the 1st European Online Rapid Cup on December 20th, 2020 on 81Dojo. After 6 rounds 4 players finished with 5 points. Thanks to the better SOS score Sergey Korchitsky (zen1976, BY) took the first place. Second became Stefanos Mandalas (DemonikOu, GR) ahead of Roman Omelchuk (BaseQ, UA) and Jean Fortin (Tellmarch, FR).

  • 1st FESA Online Rapid Cup on December 20th (November 2, 2020)

    FESA would like to invite European shogi players to the 1st FESA Online Rapid Cup, which will be held on December 20th on 81dojo. From each FESA member association country 2 representatives will be able to participate, either selected by local qualification tournaments or by nomination.
    Thinking time will be 10 min. + 30 sec. byoyomi.

    Other European players with a FESA rating from countries without a FESA member association can qualify via the preliminary tournament, which takes place on November 29th. The ournament info can be downloaded here. Information about registration is also available at the tournament site. The top four players of the preliminary tournament will qualify for the 1st FESA Online Rapid Cup.

  • Laszlo Abuczki wins 1st European Online Shogi Blitz Championship (August 10, 2020)

    96 players particpated at the 1st European Online Shogi Blitz Championship on August 9th, which was held on 81Dojo. The title was won by Laszlo Abuczki (Linkuei, HU) who beat Roman Omelchuk (BaseQ, UA) in the final. Third place was taken by Adam Dziwoki (asadis, PL).

  • 1st European Online Shogi Blitz Championship on August 9th (July 25, 2020)

    The 1st European Online Shogi Blitz Championship will be held on 81dojo August 9th starting at CEST 16:00 (UTC 14:00).
    The tournament is open to all European shogi players. It will be a knockout tournament with max. 128 participants and a thinking time of 5 min. + 10 sec. byoyomi.
